SUMMER CAMP REGISTRATION OPEN
(4/24/2007) Parks and Recreation Encourages Families to Enroll Children and Creates Fundraiser to Offer Camp Scholarships
NEW HAVEN- The Department of Parks and Recreation opened summer camp registration on Monday offering a wider variety of locations and experiences for New Haven youth. Registration is available on a first come, first serve basis. During the first month, registration is limited to New Haven residents only. Thereafter, residents of neighboring cities will be able to apply for any remaining seats.
The city boasts 18 camp programs this year with specialties ranging from theatre to nature to a variety of sports camps. All children must provide a physical evaluation form completed by their physician in order to participate. Physical evaluation forms are available in Camp 2007 registration packets and can be picked up at the Parks and Recreation office at 720 Edgewood Avenue, at all New Haven Public Schools and at the New Haven Free Public Library.
While enrollment in each two week session can cost anywhere from $45-$140, depending on the program, the Department of Parks & Recreation is working to raise scholarship money to help cover costs for children from low-income homes. The Department will hold a “Friends & Family Night” at the New Haven Cutters baseball game at 6pm on Saturday, June 2nd at Yale Field. A portion of the night’s proceeds will help to send New Haven children to camp. The evening’s event will feature fireworks and a full buffet dinner. Tickets are available at $15.95 and $19.95 depending on seating preferences and can be purchased through the Department or by calling (203) 946-8338.
